AFM file - technical definition

(Adobe Font Metrics file) A file that contains font metric information for a Type 1 PostScript font. The data in AFM and INF files are synthesized into a PFM (Printer Font Metrics) file, and Windows Type 1 fonts are distributed mostly as PFM and PFB (Printer Font Binary) files.
