Berkeley extensions - technical definition

Networking software and utilities from the Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD) that were added to AT&T's version of Unix System V to provide a complete system. The Berkeley extensions included TCP/IP, the csh shell and vi editor. See BSD Unix.
