Canadian Communications Security Establishment - technical definition

This organizationÂ’s mission is multifunctional and includes getting and providing foreign signals intelligence; providing advice and services to the Canadian government to help it protect its electronic information and information infrastructures; and providing to law enforcement and security agencies both technical and operational information. Previously, and particularly during the Cold War, the CSEÂ’s primary customer for signals intelligence was National Defense, with a focus on the military operations in the Soviet Union. After the Cold War ended, the Canadian governmentÂ’s needs included a broader-based political, defense, and security interest to a broader range of customers.
