Carterfone Decision - technical definition

In the United States, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) decision (1968) that allowed the interconnection of foreign (i.e., provided by an entity other than the telco) equipment through standard protective coupling device provided by the telco. The Carterfone Decision effectively countered the Hush-a-Phone Decision. See also FCC and Hush-a-Phone Decision.
