In the early 1980s, 2600: The Hacker Quarterly was
started to help hackers and phreakers share information. It is still very
popular with hackers today and is considered by many to be controversial in
nature—in a cognitively complex “nice” sort of way. Eric Corley (a.k.a. Emmanuel Goldstein) is the Editor-in-Chief of
the Âmagazine, and Ed Cummings
(a.k.a. Bernie S.) is a regular
contributor and collaborator. Subscriptions, back issues, and other merchandise
are available from its online store or by consulting its price list and sending
money to 2600 Magazine, P.O. Box 75, Middle Island, NY 11953, U.S.A. The
magazine is a strong supporter of the Hackers
on Planet Earth (HOPE)
convention held every two years in New York City.
