HDX - technical definition

  1. A transmission path, circuit, or channel designed to support information transfer in both directions, but only one direction at a time. The physical circuit may be capable of supporting full duplex transmission, i.e., simultaneous transmission in both directions, but the protocol may be half duplex.
  2. A protocol, such as polling, that operates on a query/response basis, with a back-and-forth dialogue between the polling device and the polled devices. A full duplex (FDX) protocol differs in that it will support simultaneous operation in both directions. See also FDX and simplex.
