IANA or Internet Assigned Numbers Authority - technical definition

One of the key bodies overseeing Internet networking. IANA governs top-level domains—represented by the final part of Web domain names, such as .com, .org, or .edu. It also governs IP address allocation and TCP and UDP port number assignment.
