infrastructure mode - technical definition

In wireless local area networks (WLANs), a manner of operation that involves a centralized hub, or access point (AP), through which computers and peripherals interconnect and intercommunicate. See also ad hoc mode and WLAN.

The mode of operation in a wireless network, in which all devices communicate with a central base station (access point). Contrast with ad hoc mode. See 802.11.
