A popular open source application server that is available from the open source community (www.jboss.org) or as a commercial product from Red Hat, which acquired JBoss, Inc. in 2006. The Red Hat version (www.jboss.com) is part of Red Hat's JBoss Enterprise Middleware (JEM) family, which is J2EE/Java EE compliant. In addition to the application server, JEM includes platforms for service-oriented-architecture (SOA), portals and system management. It also includes O-R mapping (JBoss Hibernate), business process management (JBoss JBPM) and a rules engine (JBoss Rules).
