jamming signal - technical definition

  1. A signal that intentionally introduces interference into a communication channel, either to intentionally prevent error-free reception or as a means of advising stations of some event.
  2. In local area networks (LANs), employing the carrier sense multiple access with collision detection (CSMA/CD) protocol, a station that detects a signal collision sends a jamming signal over a subcarrier frequency to advise all stations of that fact.
