link-local address - technical definition

In Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), a type of unicast address intended for local use, only. A link-local address is similar to an IPv4 private IP address, as it is not meant to be routed and not intended for use in a public domain such as the Internet, but confined to a single link, or LAN segment.
