phantom circuit - technical definition

A third circuit derived from two pairs of electrified metallic circuits known as side circuits, arranged in parallel on the line side of the network. Each side circuit is a circuit unto itself, and at the same time it acts as one conductor of the phantom circuit, which is derived by means of center-tapped transformers known as repeating coils. See also circuit and transformer.
