piezoelectric effect - technical definition

From the Greek piezo-, meaning press, and the Greek elektor, meaning shining or thesun. In electronics, the phenomenon by which certain natural and synthetic crystals become mechanically deformed under the influence of an electric field or, conversely, generate a voltage when subjected to pressure.
