An extension to HTTP that supports various encryption and authentication mechanisms to secure end-to-end commercial transactions over the Internet. S-HTTP is an Application Layer protocol standardized by the IETF in RFC 2660 (1999). S-HTTP was developed by Enterprise Integration Technologies.As an Application Layer protocol, S-HTTP cannot support the secure, encrypted exchange of other types of data, including file transfer (FTP) and e-mail (SMTP).
