Theft of Proprietary Information - technical definition

(legal term)

Stealing protected information within businesses known only to a limited number of persons working there. Typically, information that competitors would very much want to have to gain a market advantage falls into this category of proprietary information. Research and development (R&D) records, legal records, and customer and supplier lists also place in this category.
