USB adapter - technical definition

Refers to some type of network or communications controller that plugs into the computer via the USB port. It may refer to an Ethernet adapter, Bluetooth adapter or serial or parallel port adapter. Such devices are used to retrofit older computers with network capability such as Ethernet or new computers with older communications interfaces such as a serial port. See network adapter.
