Win Run command - technical definition

All programs in Windows can be launched directly from the Run option in the Start menu. In Vista, Run is disabled as default. You can use the Windows key + R shortcut to get the Run command line or put it back on the Start menu by doing the following:

1. Right click Taskbar and select Properties.

2. Click Start menu/Customize/Run command.

The name of the executable program (.EXE or .COM) can be typed in, or you can select Browse and search through the file/folder hierarchy (the path) to locate the file. Programs stored in the Windows folder such as REGEDIT.EXE (the Registry editor) do not need to be located. Just typing in the program name such as regedit and pressing Enter is all that is necessary.
